Ambitious Photographer sues 2face and Annie Idibia for N120 million

With News from Channels Television, a photographer, Emmanuel Okolo has sued popular music icon 2face his wife, Annie Idibia, and one Anthonio Anifite for copyright violation.

Requesting for the total sum of N120 million in damages on his privacy policy, Okolo who sued alongside his company, Papilonmexy Films Studios Limited claimed that the sum is damages for copyright violation involving the use of some pictures he took at their wedding without making any attribution statement. The accused wrote ‘2faceonline.com’ on 148 out of the 355 high-resolution photographs he took at their wedding.

He claimed that 2baba’s wife, Annie Idibia, contacted him to request for the pictures he had taken at their wedding in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. She soon after complained of the watermark imprint when she received them. 2baba, who is the second defendant then made an attempt to persuade Okolo to release the pictures without the watermark.

Mr Okolo eventually agreed, but pointed that the copyright will be credited to his company. When this wasn’t done, Okolo claimed that the terms of the signed agreement have been breached, prompting him to sue the couple.

Refuting the claims, 2baba and Annie have stated that the photographer had appeared at their wedding uninvited. They said shortly after the ceremony, they noticed pictures of themselves on the internet with Okolo’s company name, Papilonmexy Films Studios on them.

2baba alleged that Okolo forced the pictures on them stating that he would like to use their influence to gain brand patronage. They agreed that they will collect the pictures on the condition that he removes the watermark, which he allegedly accepted.

They also accused the photographer of having a premeditated plan to blackmail and extort money from them. With this in mind, they are demanding 150 million Naira damages and an order of perpetual injunction restraining Okolo and his studio from further commercializing their photographs.

Now you can see that the bush meat is now chasing the hunter, well it’s up to the judge and court to decide as the case is currently before Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos.
