Dasukis special assistant Nicholas Ashinze released

Nicholas Ashinze
The Nigeria army has finally released Nicholas Ashinze, special assistant to the former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki. Ashinze was released as about 2.30 pm, a friend of the long detained army colonel told Naij.com.

The source also said that there was no condition tied to the release of the detained colonel. Naij.com in one of its reports had earlier inquired from the army why Ashinze was still being detained despite court orders that the army colonel be released.

10 days ago an Abuja court ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai and the Nigeria army to release Ashinze immediately and unconditionally. An order which was disobeyed by the institutions.

Also contrary to facts available, the army had told Naij.com that Ashinze was not under detention but was only restricted within the Mogadishu cantonment.

However, checks also showed that the detained officer was being held at the Defence Headquarters Garrison, Abuja. Ashinze was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on December 23, 2014.

He was later transferred to the military facility after spending eight weeks at the EFCC.
