Edo State 2016 Gubernatorial aspirant leaves party without quick notice

Senator Uzamere
Just after two weeks of the state congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the party has tendered his resignation letter to the national leadership of the party.

The Nation reports that the former senator, Ehigie Uzamere, who made his resignation known in a statement signed and issued on March 21, declined to give any reason for his action.

“After due consultation with my family and political associates, I have withdrawn my membership of the PDP. I wish to thank the leaders of the PDP at the national, state and local government levels for their unflinching support and provision of platform for my first term as senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Edo South senatorial district between 2007-2011.

“I also wish to thank the leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as it were then, for their unflinching support and provision of the platform for my second term 2011-2015. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the general electorate of Edo South senatorial district for giving me their mandate for eight years, the first of its kind in Edo South senatorial district,” the statement reads.

Uzamere was in the red chamber between 2007 to 2015. He is the only senator from Edo South senatorial district who had spent two terms in the National Assembly, since the state was created.

It was gathered that the senator’s decision to quit the party was propelled by his dissatisfaction with the manner the party is being run in the state. The senator is also believed to be unhappy with the recently conducted congresses of the party in the state as he feared the party has been hijacked by a cabal.

Indications also emerged that some members of the PDP have decided to pull out of the party to float a new mega party. Leadership reports that Chief Perry Opara, the spokesman of the proposed new party, confirmed this indication and revealed that a special meeting had been held in respect to the formation of the party. He disclosed that the parley attracted huge turnout where members solicited the formation of a movement that will provide a voice for the masses.
