Rivers Rerun election: Governor Nyesom Wike commends President Muhamadu Buhari and teases Amaechi

Governor Nyesom Wike
Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for distancing himself from the just concluded rerun election in Rivers state.

Vanguard reports that Wike spoke on Tuesday, March 22, in the government house in Port Harcourt while addressing members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In his speech the governor accused Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, of allegedly plotting to rig the elections. He noted that the ex-governor came into the state noisily but left “quietly and shamefully” after the results did not favour the candidates of his party.

Wike went on to say that some politicians only came to intimidate the state with the name of the president who maintained neutrality, kudos to President Buhari.

“Amaechi plot to rig the rerun elections was for him to rubbish the Supreme Court judgement. He came back to the state noisily, but left quietly and shamefully- He said.

He continued “No army is stronger than the people. No police is stronger than our people. How many times will they cancel elections for the APC? Amaechi is not on ground in Rivers state”

“Those who were overzealous during the rerun elections did so without the knowledge of the president,” he noted.

In another statement, Governor Wike insisted that no official or member of the Independent National Electoral Commission has the authority to cancel any result already confirmed by a returning officer.

He said that the Rivers state government has gathered videos of the atrocities the military allegedly committed across the state during the rerun election.  He added that these videos would be released to the public at the appropriate time.
