Amaju Pinnick, the Nigeria Football Federation president has expressed confidence on Super Eagles ahead of the AFCON 2017 return leg tie against Egypt.

Speaking through Harry Awurimbe, his special adviser on women football, at the wedding ceremony of Super Falcons assistant coach Perpetua Nkwocha in Owerri on Monday, March 28, the NFF president said the Super Eagles will surprise a lot of people in Egypt.

He said in the statement: “I expect the Super Eagles to go and win right there at Alexandria, Egypt. It is not impossible because to a large extent our team is made up of foreign players. Egypt has the same climate condition with that our foreign players are familiar with. My mind is telling me that Nigeria is going to surprise so many people.

“A team performs better when you write them off and the whole world may have written the Super Eagles off but I’m one optimistic person that believes in possibilities.”

When he was asked what would be the fate of Coach Siasia if the Super Eagles don’t get to qualify for the AFCON 2017, the NFF representative replied: “Siasia knows he is an interim coach of the Super Eagles. He has team which is the U-23 Dream Team and whatever happens, he’s going back to the U-23. However, he is on a rescue mission and I don’t want to believe that the Super Eagles won’t make it to Gabon 2017, they will make it.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria played a draw with Egypt during the first leg which was played in Kaduna on Saturday, March 26 2016.

Oghenekaro Etebo scored the first goal of the match in the first-half before Mohammed Salah of Egypt scored an equalizing goal during the extra time to end the match in a draw.
