Another fire disaster hits Kano market

An estimated number of 30 shops worth millions of naira have been swept away by a fire which spread through Gwarzo market in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano state. According to the NAN’s witness’s, the accident took place around 1 am on Thursday, March 31, 2016. By the time the firemen arrived the scene the entire furniture section was gazed to the ground.

The incident as well as the damage was also confirmed by Mustapha Rulwan, the director of the state’s fire service, on Friday. The preliminary data suggest that the fire was started by a person trying to burn sawdust.

He said: “We got the report of the incident around 1.45 am and our men in Gwarzo office were able to quench the fire around 3.25 am today. Our preliminary investigation indicated that the fire spread to the shops and other places when some traders attempted to burn sawdust.

” Mr Rulwan also adviced people to take precautionary measures while using fire. Earlier today the office of Ranona Nigeria Limited, makers of FreshYo yoghurt, in Isolo area of Lagos state, was gutted by fire. Yesterday, a fruit market in Gombe state has been destroyed by fire. Also a mysterious fire outbreak has been reported at the Mohd Abubakar Rimi market, popularly known as Sabon Gari market, in Kano .
