CBN Governor is facing challenges over illegal recruitment that may remove him from office

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele is facing challenges that may result to removal from his present position following a suit filed against him by 10 constitutional lawyers.

Emefiele has been at the receiving end of fierce criticism following the secret recruitment of children and family members of top politicians including President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar.

It was reported that recruitment of family members of top politicians was done by the CBN boss to endear him towards the presidency although he has denied it and argued that the persons recruited were qualified.

According to Sahara Reporters, the case will come up in a fortnight at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Apart from the secret recruitment, Emefiele is also being accused of money laundering and other offences. President Muhammadu Buhari, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Senate are also listed as defendants in the suit.

The suit seeks an order to compel the president to initiate the removal of the governor of the CBN for abuse of office, money laundering and gross misconduct.

The 10 constitutional lawyers also want the nullification of the controversial recruitment exercise as they claim it is in violation of all recruitment laws and due process.

The hearing is expected to come up on Tuesday, May 3.
