Chaos in Taraba state as two communities clash

Several houses have been reportedly burnt and 10 people have lost their lives after violence erupted in Taraba state.


According to Premium Times, the tragedy occurred after the Shumo and Wurkum ethnic groups in Karim Lamido local government area of the state clashed.

According to report, the violence started around 2am Friday when Shumon Gwaye village which belonged to Shumo ethnic group was attacked by suspected Wurkum youth.

The attack on the Shumo village led to reprisals attacks on Didango, a Wurkum community.

Joseph Kwaji who is the police public relations officer in Taraba confirmed the incidence. He however said that contrary to report, only 2 people died.

He said: “Some suspected Shumo youth invaded and attacked Didango village.

“Two people were killed.”

Mr. Kwaji who is a deputy superintendent of police also confirmed that 11 houses were burnt in the violent attack. He said more police officers have been deployed to the region to stop the crisis.


Taraba has been at the receiving end of violent attacks in recent months especially communal clashes.
