Co-joined twins who refuse to be seperated

Meet conjoined twin sisters who are literally love to be left this way - inseparable! Seven-year-old Pin and Pan were born with two heads, torsos, and four hands but only have one leg each.

The sisters, who are joined at their waist, have learned to walk using their hands in a crab-like manner. They eat, dress, climb stairs and even ride a tricycle to attend school for disadvantaged children in Nakhon Sawan city, Taiwan.

Describing the girls as “normal and happy” children their grandparents said: “They love singing, eating ice cream, helping each other with dressing up and giggling together. The first time I saw them, it was a shock. I didn’t expect my grandchildren to be conjoined.”

No wonder the girls are so close they dont’ want to be separated despite doctors claim the operation is highky likely to be successfull. However, the twins have different personalities — they like to wear different haircuts and have different food preferences.

“One likes wearing her hair short in a pixie style, while the other prefers her hair at a longer length. One enjoys eating noodles, the other doesn’t. I’ve never wished to see them separated, even if they could. It has never crossed my mind,” their grandma Noknoi Pongchumnan said.

She hopes that one day Pin and Pan will go to university, become doctors and will be able to live an independent life.

The twins’ grandfather, Sanay Rompoyen, said: “They don’t like being told what to do. If they want to do something, they will do it. They are very spontaneous and stubborn kids. It might be nice if they could be separated. But I don’t think it’s possible, and they are happy as they are.”

Conjoined twins are extremely rare phenomenon, the occurrence is estimated to range from 1 in 49,000 births to 1 in 189,000 births, with a somewhat higher incidence in Southeast Asia, Africa and Brazil.  Approximately half are stillborn, and an additional one-third die within 24 hours.
