Cooks arrested in FGGC for using student sanitory pads for rituals

Three Kitchen staff of the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Akure, Ondo state have been apprehended by the police for allegedly using the female sanitary pads of students for rituals.

According to The Nation, the suspected women who were allegedly caught by the students picking used sanitary pads from the bin on Friday, April 1, were said to have been in the illicit business for a long time.

After the alleged diabolic activities of the three kitchen staff were blown open, students quickly reported the matter to one of their teachers, who then informed the principal on the issue. The principal, Florence Ejike, wasted no time in suspending the affected staff and handed them over to police for proper investigation.

The action of the principal however did not go down with the girls who staged a protest on Friday but the timely intervention of the chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school, Akin Ashimolowo prevented the protest from escalating, a source told the Tribune. Though, it was not yet clear if the suspects were using the used sanity pad for themselves or selling them for spiritual purposes. One of the parents who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the arrested suspects have confessed to the act at the police station.

She raised the fears that the case might be swept under the carpet because one of the suspects is a wife of a prominent politician in the state. The state police public relations officer, (PPRO) Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident said only two of the women were in the police custody and said the command had commenced investigation on the matter.

He however refused to mention names of the two suspects, saying the command had not been able to establish that whether or not the suspects used the sanitary pads for ritual purposes as alleged. In a related development, a ritualists den has been discovered by police officers attached to Sango divisional headquarters in Ogun state, Nigerian Tribune reports.

A reliable source said that the den was discovered in Iyana-Ilogbo axis of Sango where two middle-aged men were arrested in connection to the den. The den was in an abandoned filling station. The discovery followed a tip-off by members of the public.

Two victims previously held by the ritualists allegedly escaped from the building and it was when the culprits tried to recapture their victims that they were apprehended.
