Ogun state workers would be obliged to provide their BVNs to receive salaries, according to Taiwo Adeoluwa, the secretary to the state government, Taiwo Adeoluwa. The decision was taken during a meeting between labour movement leaders and state government officials. The direction enters into force since the endof April, 2016.

Ogun state is unique as we have continued to engage and dialogue with the organized labour.‎

As part of our continuous discussions, we have both agreed that we should take advantage of the BVN system to ensure that our scarce resources are not going to ghost workers. In view of this, we have agreed that starting from the end of April 2016, salaries will be paid using the BVN of all workers. As stakeholders, we are committed to jointly finding a lasting and sustainable solution to the issues raised by the labour movement.” The organised labour movement representatives, Olubunmi Fajobi, State Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Abiodun Olakanmi, of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) expressed their satisfaction they managed to reach an agreement with the state government. They also requested the state head of service to officially report the resolution to civil servants in the state.

Yetunde Onanuga, the deputy governor and the meeting chairman, expressed his delight with the leadership of the organised labour and government officials succesfully discussing the issue in order tofind  a lasting and more sustainable resolution of the workers’ demands.
