Senior aide to Edo state Governor arrested for illegal possession of arms

Curtis Ugbo, a senior special assistant on media and public affairs to Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole, was arraigned before Oredo Magistrate Court on Thursday, April 14.


Premium Times reports that the governor’s aide was arraigned for possession of a double barrel gun without a valid license. 

Reading the first of the three counts, police prosecutor S. Iredia said that Ugbo committed the offense on April 12 at No 2b, Ugbor Road in Benin City, Edo state. 

He was also accused of publishing an article against Oshiomhole in a manner likely to cause breach of peace in Edo state.

The said Internet publication with the caption: “What’s wrong with my Boss?” read in part: 

“The ground breaking of Edo state own cement industry in partnership with a private company under Government Public Private Partnership and stakeholders, no state House members or speaker and National Assembly member presence notice. Is Edo state now a personal business of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole?” 

The accused person who pleaded not guilty to the charge was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000.00 and a surety in like sum, who must own a property with Certificate of Occupancy in the district.
