Governor Rochas Okorocha given ultimatum of 60 days to pay workers salary

The president of the Ndigbo Unity Forum, Mr Augustine Chukwudum told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday, May 1, that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has to pay the state workers the salaries and other emoluments he owes workers.

This was contained in a statement the president of the group made available to newsmen today in Enugu state, which falls on workers’ day.

Mr Chukwudum said it is rather very sad that Imo state government has not paid its workers, despite collecting bailout fund from the federal government. He said the money released by the government at the centre was enough to pay the civil servants. He said what the governors and their cabinet members did was to divert the money for their own selfish use.

The statement explained that the inability of the Imo state governor to pay workers is the highest level of impunity, warning that, other civil societies will converge for a mass protest to show their discontentment.

It stated:

“On South East, we observed that the Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state notwithstanding bailout funds that runs into billions that he received from the Federal Government that he still owes workers in the state many months salary.

“We demand that Governor Rochas Okorocha should pay workers in Imo state their salary within 60 days.’’
