Unknown armed men kidnap pregnant wife and four children of Akwa-Ibom paramount ruler

It was reported on Friday, April 29, that unknown gunmen kidnapped the pregnant wife and the four children of the paramount Akwa Ibom ruler, Ubong Assam.

According to NAN, this was made known on Saturday by the secretary of the local Esit Eket council, Asuquo Abia. At least 10 gunmen invaded the ruler’s palace and were shooting sporadically for over five hours.

“The gunmen destroyed part of the palace with dynamites and broke into all the rooms and carted away valuables.”

Moreover, seven other people were injured and hospitalized.

Norbert Assam, the family member, narrated:

“They came in two vehicles, a white Hilux van and a sports utility vehicle; they met the paramount ruler and said they came from Abuja to investigate a matter of attempted murder on the life of the monarch.

“We saw two masked men in the Hilux van who they claimed were suspects of the attempted murder case, but they did not allow us to go near the vehicles.”

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom PPRO, Cordelia Nwawe, said the command was yet to receive a report on the kidnap from the divisional police officer in the area.
